MapClue ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website (mapclue.com) and our products, including the GeoSherlock browser extension. GeoSherlock is specifically designed with privacy as a core architectural principle: image analysis is performed directly between your browser and Anthropic's API using your own API key. MapClue does not receive, process, or store any images you analyze. Please read this policy carefully. By using MapClue services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

We collect the following types of information: Account Information: When you create a MapClue account, we collect your name and email address. Passwords are hashed before storage using industry-standard cryptographic methods. Usage Data: We may collect anonymized usage statistics about how the MapClue website is accessed — such as page views, referrer information, and browser type. This data is aggregate and not linked to individual users. Communications: If you contact us via the contact form or email, we retain your message and email address to respond to your inquiry. What We Do NOT Collect: - Screenshots or images captured by GeoSherlock - GeoSherlock analysis results - Your Claude API key (stored locally in your browser only) - Location data from your device - Payment information (billing not yet available)

We use the information we collect to: - Operate and maintain your MapClue account - Respond to your support requests and inquiries - Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset) - Improve our products and services based on aggregated usage patterns - Enforce our Terms of Service - Comply with legal obligations We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your information to train AI models.

Your account data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including: - HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit - Hashed password storage (bcrypt) - Regular security reviews - Minimal data collection by design Despite these measures, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. Data Retention: Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Anthropic API: GeoSherlock users interact directly with Anthropic's Claude API using their own API keys. Images and analysis requests go directly from your browser to Anthropic's servers. MapClue is not in this data flow. Anthropic's privacy policy governs how they handle data sent to their API. Analytics: We may use privacy-respecting analytics services to understand aggregate website usage. Any such service is configured to not collect personal identifiers. Future Payments: When billing is introduced, we plan to use Stripe for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy will govern payment data. MapClue will not store raw payment card information.

MapClue uses minimal cookies: - Session cookies: Required for authentication when you're logged in. These expire when you close your browser or log out. - Preference cookies: Optional cookies that remember your settings. You can disable these without affecting core functionality. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights: - Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. - Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data. - Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data. - Portability: Request your data in a portable format. - Objection: Object to processing of your data in certain circumstances. MapClue services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Continued use of MapClue services after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
